Transmission problems can stress any driver. Most of the time, any transmission problem can be easily resolved by bringing your Genesis into our service center as soon as you detect a problem. As your Genesis dealer, we’d like to give you tips on some signs you may need a transmission repair with us.

Signs You Need a Transmission Repair at Your Genesis Dealer

Overheating Transmission

Transmission fluid circulates through the transmission and helps to control its temperature. The fluid reduces friction between the various components by coating them with a friction-reducing barrier. The fluid also absorbs heat as it moves, and this heat is removed when the fluid passes close to your engine’s cooling system.
As the transmission fluid ages, it becomes slower and thicker. The reason for this is transmission fluid also absorbs dirt and other debris as it circulates. The slower fluid increases the transmission temperature, and the aging fluid can overheat. Without the constant cooling effect of the fluid, your transmission will overheat and could seize up. We can flush the transmission to remove the old fluid and refill it.

Weird Noises

A Genesis transmission is silent as the computer shifts gears. Any weird noises from the transmission are automatically a sign of trouble. Buzzing, whining, bumping, and even clunking are all sounds you hear when a transmission is in distress. Generally speaking, the louder the sound, the more urgently it needs to be fixed. Most of these sounds are barely audible when the problem starts.
Clunking noises usually mean a transmission component is damaged and could be failing. Buzzing noises are usually caused by low transmission fluid or a worn seal. A whining noise usually means there’s a problem with the torque converter. The converter connects the transmission to your engine. Our technicians will need to investigate to find the cause of the problem.

Transmisison Fluid Leak

As we’ve seen, transmission fluid helps keep your transmission healthy and its temperature under control. Without this fluid, your transmission will rapidly overheat, and the gears and other components will seize up. A seized transmission would have to be replaced, and this makes it vital to fix a transmission leak ASAP.
The most common source of transmission leaks is damaged seals and gaskets. The transmission pan gasket, for example, can start to fail if your transmission isn’t regularly serviced. The seals around the gasket shrink in time, and this can allow the fluid to leak out. If the fluid level is low, the increasing temperature in the transmission will illuminate your check engine light. We can easily replace worn seals and refill the fluid.
