Pizza is a universal favorite, and the best pizza in Waipio, HI doesn’t come from national chains. It comes from local pizzerias that we love. These are the spots that we head to in style in our Genesis G90 whenever only pizza will do.
The Pizza Press
If you’re looking for an old-fashioned pizza parlor atmosphere with casual offerings, good beer, and solid, reliable pizza, this is the spot for you. You’ll find it at the Pearl Highlands Center at 1000 Kamehameha Hwy Suite 233. They’re open from 11 AM until 8 PM Sunday through Wednesday, until 8:30 PM on Thursday, and until 9:30 PM on Friday and Saturday.
They have lots of local and seasonal craft beers on tap, so please enjoy responsibly and never drink and drive. As for pizza, you can’t go wrong with any of their signatures. We love the Times, which is olive oil, mozzarella, chicken, grape tomatoes, cilantro, BBQ sauce, and red onion. We’re also really fond of The Sun, which is red sauce, mozz, honey-smoked ham, bourbon bacon, pineapple and tomatoes, and sharp cheddar.
Boston’s Pizza
Located at 98-302 Kamehameha Hwy in Aiea, Boston’s opens at 10:30 AM and closes at 8 PM every day. If you’re a fan of East Coast-style pizza, this is the right spot. They sell by the pie or by the (gigantic) slice, and the prices here are particularly good. This is thin-crust, floppy pizza that will remind you of your last visit to the Big Apple.
We like everything they make here. The pepperoni and sausage are a classic, as is the pepperoni with mushroom and black olive. The Spicy Jenny is also really nice. It’s red sauce, pepperoni, sausage, spinach, mushrooms, garlic, and red pepper. The garlic cheesy bread is too good to put down, so we’d highly recommend it.
California Pizza Kitchen at Pearlridge
This small local chain has a couple of locations, and the Pearlridge one in the Pearlridge Center at 98-1005 Moanalua Rd is one of the best. They’re open from 11 AM until 10 PM from Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, they’re open for an extra hour until 11 PM.
There’s a lot to love here. We enjoy The Works and their BBQ chicken pizza especially, but they also have unique flavors, like their Thai chicken and the carne asada. The appetizers here are really special, too. The avocado club egg rolls are great, and the spicy buffalo cauliflower is amazing. If you have someone in the group who doesn’t want pizza, they also have steaks, salmon, burgers, and more.
