Genesis cars have some of the most advanced headlights on the road with features such as the Intelligent Front-Lighting System which partially deactivates and reactivates high beams as you drive to avoid blinding oncoming drivers. Genesis headlights are also extremely long-lasting, but all headlight bulbs occasionally need to be repaired or replaced. Here are three signs that you may need to visit your closest Genesis dealer for new headlights

3 Signs Your Genesis Needs New Headlights

Dimming Headlights

When a headlight bulb begins to fail, it will usually lose a portion of its brightness. You may notice the street ahead become slightly dimmer on one side as the corresponding bulb falters. When one bulb falters in Genesis quad lights, strong light will still be provided by the other bulbs still in use. You’re more likely to notice the dimness when one high-beam bulb is switched off to reduce glare for oncoming vehicles.

Many modern cars use light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs, which can lose 20% of their brightness toward the end of their very long lifespans. Your car may still have high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs, which can lose up to 70% of their total brightness, or halogen bulbs, which tend to suddenly lose most of their brightness just before they die.

Cloudy Headlights

While driving at night, if the light ahead starts to seem more cloudy than dim, one or more of your headlight lenses may have begun to oxidize from overexposure to sunlight. Although modern car headlight lenses are protected from UV rays by a special clear coat, this protective coating can eventually wear away, letting the UV rays through.

Alternatively, cloudy or hazy headlights may simply mean that your lenses are a little dirty. Wipe them down to see if full headlight brightness returns.

Flickering Headlights

When the light ahead starts to flicker, either your bulbs or the wiring behind them is having an issue. Occasionally, flickering can also be caused by a failing alternator or battery. You may have to ask a technician to diagnose the problem.

Ask Your Genesis Dealer Which Bulb Types You Use

It’s important to know which type of bulb your car uses so that you can predict how long it’s likely to last. A halogen bulb with a 1,000-mile estimated lifespan would be expected to flicker and fade after four or five years, but good LED bulbs will often last for as long as your car does.

Check with your dealer which kind of bulb you’re using, or look it up in your owner’s manual. That way, you’re less likely to be taken by surprise by headlight trouble.
